Default If Marilyn Monroe were alive today...

...would she still be as popular?

Is human "beauty" getting better? Would the people we consider to be beautiful today, if put in a time machine and taken back to the 60s, would be, on average, more beautiful than the people considered to be beautiful in the 60s (adjudged by people living in the 60s). Or alternatively, do tastes change and on average the people considered beautiful in the 60s, would on average be more beautiful than those of today?

Do a google search for: Marylin Monroe nude.

She'd still be popular.

Oh yes, I understand that, but say if a group representing the most beautiful people from this era and a group representing the most beautiful people from Marylin's era were in a room, and you were allowed to bang, say 10, would you choose >5 from this era, =5 from this era or <5 from this era (presuming that these people were of the sex that you would usually bang)?

Maybe the advancements in photography/video are part of this question. I think if women from the 60's were filmed and photographed today, they would be just as beautiful.

Oh yeah, fashions change. But I think when it comes to banging, the margins are slimmer than we might imagine.

Well that is a good point when it comes to banging, and no doubt the average horny person could make it through both representative groups, but it is the initial choice that would be interesting (especially if we are going on looks alone).

Would a person, from, let's say thousands of beautiful people from both eras, concentrate the initial amount of banging on their era, a previous era, or a future era?

And it could be that it also depends on the era (how far off it is, maybe from the 60s until the present does not make much difference to some people), and no offence to the Dutch, but looking at the people painted in old Dutch paintings (if they are representative and not just the rich inbred ugly people) I could not imagine any of them making my initial top ten. But given enough alcohol and viagra...

Similarly in the future Dutch there could be some weird shit going on, with people having stem cell injections, giving them sixteen arms and five heads, which would give the average future Dutch person a hard on, but once again, given enough alcohol and viagra...

Further to this, I would imagine the person has to choose the initial ten at their peak pre-sex horniness, rather than after they have already banged a few and need some weird shit to keep them going - then they might be after the people with sixteen arms

So I suppose there would need to be some stipulations, the question could be w.r.t. Sexual Selection or Beauty, if with regards to Sexual Selection;

Rule number 1) A person can only choose the ten people, from a sample of one thousand people from two different eras, when they are sober, and pre-sex horny

Rule number 2) The sample of one thousand people will consist of people from all over the world who were adjudged to be representative of "beautiful" people

Rule number 3) The people who make up the thousand sample can only be adjudged on their appearance only (therefore no communication allowed or conflict of interest (like current partners))

Rule number 4) The people who make up the thousand sample will be representative of the sexual preference/s of the person judging

Then we get to the question - would a person select, in their top ten, most people from their era, most people from the immediate future era, or ~50:50

My feeling is, with no evidence to back this up, people will more likely choose more people from their era.

Mr. Pierce, do you think anyone will watch the clip long enough to get to the self licking part?

I wouldn't worry about that, Nick.

Phew. Thanks, P.

let's see if this works

1950s Queen Elizabeth along with Norma Jean Daugherty would both be considered very attractive.

I'd say that Norma Jean would be more appreciated now that in the 1980s where the trend was toward stick thin girls.

Gone for two months, and come back to another "licking the cat" thread.

Personally, I'd go for the ones from a previous era, assuming their looks had been frozen in time during the intervening years.

The ones from the present are still readily available, and a man can't rule out the possibility of liaisons with future beauties (come the time). Girls from the past are nothing but memories and wishes, so yeah, if I had a chance, I'd fill my top ten with them.

Ah yes, but the argument is not whether a person would bang the person from the era, the conclusion BP and I came to would be that the banging will happen, regardless of the era. But if the person were to make a choice of 10 people from 1000 people from two different eras, would the top ten constitute more people from their particular era?

What if you were really horny, drunk and had taken a few blue pills, and she was the only person for hundreds of miles around?

Yes, curves are back... so much so that women are injecting their buttocks with all sorts.

As for Marilyn I think it was a lot more than looks. I think she was the type to ignite the white knight in men, and he's up there with the craziest bastards of all.

Agree with you JC - it was her vulnerability. Her softness and naivety.

Men responded to her beauty - but far more to the sense of masculinity she endowed them with.

Ha ha!

Yeah -- she was hot. Just not all that special or talented in my opinion. She died relatively young -- that always adds to the allure.

If I had to pick someone from that era, it would be Grace Kelly...

I think it was what JC and Grace said about her. She had a way of making a man feel like a man.

Grace... she is a tall order. Not sure I could dig a woman who was obviously (almost ridiculously) smarter than me. I guess we could get her a cheap pair of glasses and play: librarian teaches the dirty plumber how to read.

I just mean as long we're fantasizing...

And maybe I'm just not all that attracted to that kind of vulnerability. Seems like it may be more trouble than it's worth.

If you could ask Arthur Miller or Joe DiMaggio they might tell you the same thing.

And now that I really think about it -- when Marylin Monroe first comes to mind -- I think I feel a little sad more than anything else.

Like there's something very haunting and sad about that last photo shoot she did for Life magazine -- and I always think of that. I think by most indications she was a pretty unhappy and lonely person at the end.

So yeah -- I think somehow that outweighs any immediate physical attraction that I have -- if that makes any sense.

I try not to think about the real person, Marylin Monroe. Mostly to me she is just the character, as are so many stars and celebs of old. The real people were, I'm sure, quite different than their public personas. What's left is the characters, the benchmarks, and the fantasies.

Let's stay with that Myers, not get all sappy😀

Hah. Having read your writing and considering the aggregate of your posts, I have a hard time believing you really think that.

There's no way to know where or how to draw the line between the persona and the person. But anyone with any empathy is automatically going to go there -- and think about her as a human being.

And again -- there's the early death factor.

I wonder if we would be having this conversation if she'd wound up in the cast of "The Poseidon Adventure." Or on "The Love Boat..."

Captain Stubing and Marylin... hmm... yes, that might have changed things.

I was talking about famous people who died way before my time. I know they were people behind those personas, but their real lives are mostly lost to me in there somewhere. I can imagine, yeah, read the histories, but I don't much.

I'll think about that.

Going back to Picklebum's original question of whether "human beauty is getting better" - its not all about physicality. The defining deportment, behaviour and dress code between the sexes seems to be blending towards androgyny. Women are harder now. The difference between Kim Kardashian and Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly and Madonna is aggression. John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Humphrey Bogart - nothing metrosexual about them.

There's the old adage "opposites attract" - but men and women are just getting less and less opposite.
