After Genetics of Regret by Jeanann Verlee

I知 sorry for the cigarette burn in the passenger seat of your car
And the lipstick stain on the wall in your upstairs bathroom
And the blood on your living room rug
And the crack in your kitchen tile
And I知 sorry that I drank all your good liquor
And tried to fuck your brother
In the same night
I知 sorry I called your mom a bitch
I知 sorry for the bald patch in your back yard from where I ripped the grass all out
I知 sorry for the vomit
I知 sorry I didn稚 call you back
I知 sorry I kissed you
And you pushed me away but I知 sorry I kissed you again
I知 sorry I scared away the girl at the bar
And the girl at the coffee shop
And the bookstore
I知 sorry I can稚 get drunk without bringing up the assault
The eating disorder
The pills
I知 sorry I cried when you told me you were seeing someone else
I知 sorry I cried at your birthday party
I知 sorry I cried during Heathers
And I知 sorry I yelled at your neighbor
And I知 sorry they almost called the cops.
Again.
I知 sorry for the stolen tampons
And the stolen cigarettes
I知 sorry I ate all of the food in your fridge then threw it up in your sink
I知 sorry for the gouges in your cabinets
The missing paint and the dented cans of soup
I知 sorry I tried to tear up your bible
And I知 sorry I tried to roll a joint with the pages
I知 sorry I知 sick
I知 sorry this took me ten years to say
I知 sorry I知 like this
All anger and grit
Bloody fist and gnashing teeth and spilt vodka

I知 sorry I didn稚 call you back

Briefly I feel guilty for taking pleasure in another's misery. But, you do it so well.

As always, I hope you are just a very good writer, and not living this.

Both what? Are you drunk Pierce? I smell alcohol on your breath. I am, however, glad that airport shooter in Florida turned out not to be you😀

Why not both "just a very good writer" and "living this" ?

Typed while sipping Kombucha.

Ah, yes, good question. The writing is so powerful, and maybe it's true too.

But when you see someone like Buk or Hem choosing to live the life which affords them the experiences that fuel their art, you may feel sorry for their misfortunes, but after all, they chose that life, chose to stay or continue doing the things they did as a way of life (or so they claim).

LtL has given no indication that she is choosing this thing. In fact, she doesn't even seem to know how good her writing is. Maybe she is just extra good at imagining terrible (and funny, and a lot of other facets), things. Then putting them to paper.

There's a lot going on in this post, so I'd just like to say thank you to each nice thing you've both said. Also, I'd love to publish something at some point. Also, it's both.

*shameless solicitation*

We are always looking to publish good poetry at www.oddvillepress.com

Can't guarantee anything; I have little sway with the poetry editors.

Indeed.
Tis one of the aspects that makes publication all the more compelling.
