An Introduction to The Reference Room
Welcome to The Reference Room. As you would expect by the name, this is where you will find articles on proper usage.
Members frequently ask questions about grammar, punctuation, spelling, style and so on. Although we try to answer these questions whenever they arise, it is only natural that we forget some exception to the rule, or the particulars of some specific case or other. How wonderful, we thought, if we could direct members to a well-written explanation where the answer is explained clearly and thoroughly.
Accordingly, we decided to set up a dedicated forum where articles on these topics, and more, could be stored. It will take a while to build up a good collection, and for us to determine the best way to organise this information, but we hope that in time this forum will become a popular resource for everyone.
In the meantime, if you have any requests or suggestions about things that you would like to see included here, or if you would like to recommend something you read elsewhere on the forum, please send a private message to any of the staff, or post your comment in Members’ Feedback and we will do our best to oblige you.
Please continue to post specific questions about usage in Writing Help & Issues. This area is purely for reference and not discussion.
