Thats a nice thought and yeah, thanks for fixing things, kind of. But the site is still broken. Some links don't work so you have to keep going in roundabouts to get from one thread to another.

But yeah, its nice to have things back to a semblance of normality. Maybe this place will limp along and not die after all.

P.S. JP Inkswell's website's prayer is glorious.

Yes, thank you.

It would also be nice to upgrade the forum software to a full-screen and a responsive design for phones.

You come to this site and it looks like you're rushing headlong into the 2000's.

Not on Tapatalk Pro for my iPhone. Everything looks great. Yeah, I can't change my avatar, but that's it.

Edit: and there's no ads

If CrowdGather pulls the plug I could use one of the free forum board providers (Pro Boards is always at least decent) and create a forum)

It would likely be loosely moderated and administered, partly from a time factors.

To do so, I'd have to start collecting email addresses right now......

I tried it -- it looks pretty cool.

But a potential new member will likely expect a responsive design or smart phone version.

Either way, I have limited patience with typing on a phone. I'm doing it now -- but anything much longer and I'm going to want to use a keyboard.

I just checked and everything is working fine now. Thanks for sorting it.

Though, one further niggle. I decided to check my profile, which is working btw, and tried changing my avatar. I know you guys have a 19.5 kb limit and a 75x75 pixel limit for avatar sizes. I used to get away with slightly bigger files if I kept the dimensions small, or vice versa if I kept the file small, but now, I cant do either. So, I cant update my avatar because if I make the picture dimensions 75 pixels square, the site wont let me use it because its a couple kbs over the limit. Kind of restrictive, and maybe why other people are also having problems? Might be worth raising one of those limits to allow a wider variety of file/image sizes.

That's perfect!

It's more what I imagine Myers looks like but you picked the colors I can see.

Honestly I was expecting Obama wearing Michelle's lingerie or worse.

So for a client I'm working with an illustrator to develop illustrations/icons to represent different people working in a healthcare environment for infographics etc. This is for one of the biggest medical supply and inventory management companies in the world.

We already had plenty of men and women in all shades -- but just yesterday, they came back to me and said they needed a man bun on one of the icons.

This was over the phone -- and I just went silent. She was like, I know, I know, but just do it...

okay, here's what I think.

Do I look like a muslim barbie doll to you? Because thats the only way that avatar would be remotely funny. That I was ripping the piss out of my culture's oppression of females wanting to express their girly femininity with make-up and hair styles without being forced to hide under a veil by their menfolk who're so shocked by the sight of femaleness, they just cant keep their dicks in their pants but wont accept personal responsibility for their lack of self control so instead put it onto their womenfolk because you know, smaller weaker sex etc. I'm not. I'm just some random white chick from Scotland who has my own issues with gender role bullshit to deal with but certainly not that so to any actual muslim females out there, I'd just look like I was ripping the piss out of them in the worst xenophobic kind of way.

So no, not cool or funny in any way. Mostly just myopic and tacky as fuck.

I thought it was regular Barbie after washing her hair.

Be careful with your assumptions - you can't generalise that all women wearing the hijab or any of its variations are oppressed or unhappy - it's not the case. Many of the modern Muslim diaspora choose hijab - it's not enforced by either tradition, male oppression or the laws of the land they live in. It's their chosen expression of humility, pride in their culture and spiritual separation from worldly concerns. Some of these women have lucrative careers and every independent advantage we have - they're not at home cowering.

The British Muslim communities are more concerned with pressure from society to NOT dress their heads for fear of being discriminated against in the employment arena or being racially targeted by the profoundly ignorant.

Nobody would think you're "taking the piss" - it's a doll. I hope it plays some part in helping children feel comfortable and indiscriminate against different dress and culture.

You don't need to be a Muslim to play with it - it's just a friggin' Barbie produced by a company that are smart enough to recognise a new market and previously missed revenue stream from a vast population.

All that said - so good to see you CandraH you feisty old mousse. Please put up a link if you're still doing your art - would love to see the latest. x

Of course you know.

Your rant about "female oppression", "being forced to hide under a veil" and being treated as "the smaller, weaker sex" conveyed your knowledge entirely...

Well, my wife is heavily involved in a private refugee resettlement program, and I guarantee she would tell you that many Muslim women once exposed to a culture with more open views DO NOT want to wear the haijb -- but they are scared to death not to wear it. They absolutely feel that have NO choice in the matter.

But isn't it great that some women can CHOOSE to wear the hajib as a cultural expression -- or whatever? I bet they buy the really fashionable, pretty ones and they wear the makeup to match.

Hijab is a religious obligation set out by the Qu'ran.

If you are devout Muslim, then observance of that law is an expression of your faith.

Yeah, sure you have women in the refugee programme who feel constrained or oppressed. They may be trapped in a faith they don't want - enforced by a husband that treats them like a dog or a family that demands compliance for fear of shame being bought upon them.

I've worked in a woman's refuge Myers - I could believe that every British wife is systematically raped and battered if I based my views on one concentrated experience of collective female misery.

In their own cultural setting, women who are not covered are deemed to be available or of no virtue - which puts them in danger. The hijab signifies their purity or unavailablitiy - but regardless, keeps them safe. When I lived as an expat in Saudi, Dubai and Egypt - I covered up. These are not countries that are used to flesh being exposed and the attention you receive is hostile and threatening. In Abidjan, I was trapped by two men and had chunks of my blonde hair cut out for its curative properties. Wore a headscarf after that.

There will be lots of Muslim women who envy the freedoms of the West and want to reject their culture. Many that don't.

I would hope you can appreciate that your jaded views (which aren't founded in any experience or understanding) do nothing but perpetuate the current trend of Muslim hatred .

Lovely to see you stood behind JoeMatt again CandraH - ever convinced whatever comes out of his mouth is pure gold.
