Obviously they spared no expense.

I'm guessing Jerome Robbins or a fledgling Bob Fosse.

By the way -- I dig Hank Marvin. He's one of your national treasures.

'Don't fear the reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult. Scares the hell out of me, but it's such a great riff.

My favorite Doors song. Shows off the best of their playing and even includes a nice bit of Morrison's wacky spoken poetry...

Heh. Yeah, the song seems a little goofy to me -- but you're right -- the opening bit is pretty great.

And of course, there's that awesome cowbell work.

Liela -- I know you're from across the pond -- so maybe you haven't seen this sketch about cowbell and "Don't Fear the Reaper." It's been kinda done to death here -- but it's still funny. Hope the link works over there...

If not, this one probably will, but the quality is pretty bad:

I've been going through all the music I've written and recorded to see if there are any songs I want to do over. I came across this from one of my failed bands.

It's the only song I have with my better half singing solo. She pretty much won't sing these days, so listening to it made me feel kind of sad.

The recording isn't very good -- I was going for high gain sound on the vocals -- but it doesn't really work with the material. She sounds great though.

You're right, she does an awesome job. She's somehow strong and mellow at once as if it's absolutely effortless for her to reach inside herself. Great song besides. You really have a knack for crafting a tune so that it has a lot of elements yet still holds together.

Thanks, man.

The spousal unit has a lot of talent -- but she is pretty self conscious and suffers from stage fright. Sometimes I had to set things up and leave the room when we were recording. Getting her to do it is like pulling teeth.

We didn't play that many gigs -- but when we did she usually had to have a couple of glasses of wine first...

I did find one more song with her singing lead. Here the over-driven vocals work -- and she sounds pretty badass.

the goblin remembers when the kinks brought out that record, smiling "...I was young and foolish, today I'm still foolish so it's good to see that some things don't change in me...", meanwhile the goblin just added a track of a concert that he so much wanted to see more for the magic of the spectacle itself than the music

The Kinks put out some great stuff.

In the 80's they kinda lost the plot and put out some pretty bad stuff that sounds especially dated today -- but you have to make a living, I suppose.
