Rambling is fun... I used to try to talk in blank verse, just to get the hang of it.
MOM: Did you eat yet?
ME: (long pause) I think I did, but really can't be sure.
MOM: Well, do you want something now?
ME: (long pause) Something hot, or something cold is fine.
I can't decide without first looking in
the fridge and naming everything I see!
MOM: What?!
Eventually, I got quite good at it, but mastering a meter does not a poem make! It's just fun to practice, like what you did here. Then one day, you may sit to write a poem and feel the words coming in blank verse. The meter will flow, and you'll be able to concentrate on other aspects of the poem.
Have you ever tried a collaborative poem? Each person adds a line, and they try to make it all work together (as
here). If you want, I think it'd be fun to give a blank verse collaboration a try.
