I just bought the album "Gold" by the band Them -- featuring Van Morrison, before he went solo.

I've always thought the best Dylan cover after the Jimi Hendrix version of All Along the Watchtower, is their version of It's All Over Know, Baby Blue:

If you haven't heard it, it's pretty great.

El Cu Cuy - Coal Chamber

All of their songs have such a strong rhythm coming through the guitars as well as the drums. Definitely flashing back to my rocker days right now.

I'm not a big fan of that particular brand of metal. But if you like stuff that's pretty heavy and dark, you might want to check out The Black Angels. They're a neo-psychedelic band from Austin -- they've been around a few years. Put Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and Iron Butterfly in blender and you come out with their music. At times, the guys voice sounds oddly like Grace Slick with Jim Morrison phrasing. Yeah -- it's pretty derivative, but it's kind of cool and fun. Plus -- they have a chick drummer. They get automatic points just for that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PG9Rh-qmdg

Pretty elaborate video for an indy band.

The Johnny Cash/Fiona Apple cover of Simon and Garfinkles Bridge Over Troubled Waters

I've heard that. Like a lot of Cash covers, he brings a lot weight to the lyrics. He makes you really listen to them. But when Fiona Apple comes in, it doesn't seem like there's any connection between the two singers. I think it would have been better as a Cash solo.

I had a girlfriend back fifteen years ago, fancied herself a country girl (she's the one of the 'hay bell' story).

She was always listening to that Country music even though it always made me want to cry, kill myself or hunt down an ex-girlfriend and kill her.

She made 'Amazed', by Lonestar, our song.

I heard it the other day for the first time in years. It got me to thinking about why we walk away from certain people and then end up tolerating something even worse from another person down the line.

Shit wasn't really all that bad. If I'd've known what was coming I'd have put up with ten years of it rather than endure five minutes of some of the shit I've been through since.

Sometimes I'm too picky for my own good.

But at any rate, that's the song. 'Amazed'. It's been stuck in my head ever since.

When I first read that, I was thinking Lone Justice, which I guess is somewhat tolerable.

Lonestar -- that's just pop music with a guy singing in a fake southern accent with a little fiddle or pedal steel in the background.

My wife truly is a country girl -- all her relatives and the people where she grew up listen to country music -- but the new horrible stuff, not the classic country, some of which I like. And I like alt-country, like Gillian Welch, Drive-By Truckers and Neko Case, who has one the most beautiful voices on the planet.

Somehow growing up she latched on to all the chick singers of the 90's -- Alanis Morissette, Tor Amos, Sarah McLachlan etc. I can handle that -- but she also listens to Christian contemporary music -- and that stuff makes my stomach turn.

I walked away from the woman I was with before my wife because she was totally insane. I guess I was addicted to the uncertainty and excitement of it -- then I just got tired of it and I wanted to turn my life around.

A few weeks later, I met my wife on a blind date. I was like, oh, it doesn't have to be some kind of emotional roller coaster. She's got her quirks and eccentricities, but they're lovable. Otherwise, she's totally level-headed. Overall, sane is much better than crazy.

And we do have a song -- Man on the Moon, by REM. My kids call it the "yeah, yeah, yeah" song. With me on guitar, we actually do a very credible family cover of it.

Lately I've been listening to Maroon 5. Good sound and good lyrics. My musical tastes cross several genres.

Bruno Mars.

That video reminds me of a coal black wolf/Newfoundland cross I had. He picked me when he was a pup and was by my side nearly every minute of the next eleven years.

I had built a blood red and black mountain bike. I'd take Midnight running late at night, when there's less traffic and more weird stuff about. We'd ride through the homeless encampments on the outskirts of town, along the edge of the bay and in the Devil's Playground.

The Devil's Playground has the concrete ruins of the drying kilns from an old sawmill, overgrown cavernous rooms with strange, garbage filled holes in the floor which lead to tunnels. People live in the tunnels and the jungle around.

The cops won't go back there. When they do a drug or warrant sweep they go in force and they're touchy, touchy... You don't want to surprise one of them.

Maybe it's all the bodies they've had to haul out of there, or the tents full of guns. Maybe the devil worshippers.

A girlfriend thought I was a devil. "You always take off after midnight," she'd say. "You're wearing all black, with that black fedora with the silver chain for a hatband, smoking that black cigar; you're riding a blood red and black bike with a black machete strapped to it, you've got that huge black dog that pops up out of nowhere and looks at you like he knows what you've been doing -- what's up with that dog? Why doesn't he ever bark? He freaks me out. So where do you go?

"We go riding," I'd tell her. I didn't tell her where and I didn't tell her I couldn't be a devil because if I was I probably wouldn't have freaked out the devil worshippers so bad when I'd ride up in the middle of them with that silent black wolf beside me.

Breakeven - The Script

I find this bit very catchy

I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a God that I don't believe in
'Cause I got time while she got freedom
'Cause when a heart breaks, no, it don't break even

Okay. Your stuff pwns too btw and especially American Horror Story and 10,000 Light Years From Home (very Sci-fi). That "Thinkin'" track was cool too.

Well, maybe start with this year's Chartova Duzhina. The bands:
0:16 Мумий Тролль (Mumiy Troll)
17:04 Пилот (Pilot)
33:20 Ночные Снайперы (Nochniye Snaiperi)
42:28 Секрет (Secret)
1:00:18 Смысловые Галлюцинации (Semantic Hallucinations)
1:25:54 ДДТ (DDT)

All of Semantic Hallucinations so totally pwns but I like another mix of the track "Вечно Молодой" even more so I included that link too.
Btw, when I think of "Return of the Leopard" or "Tiger Day", I always think Mumiy Troll. They do so much for conservation movements.

Chartova Duzhina 2015!

Смысловые Галлюцинации - Вечно Молодой

Both of your last tracks pwn! I haven't heard Lescop until now but I totally do know Placebo (Battle for the Sun & Ashtray Heart etc).
Keep the French tracks coming!
Placebo - Battle For The Sun

Another totally favorite band = Би-2 and especially Полковнику Никто не пишет (Nobody Writes To The Colonel) with scenes from the movie, Варвара (Barbarian), and Оптимист (Optimist) from the recent Spirit album.
But now the orange ferret and the eggs so I think somebody writes...

Би-2- Полковнику Никто не пишет

Би-2 - Варвар

Би-2 - Оптимист
