Default I'll Wait For You (Song)

I've never been the sort of guy
who likes to see a woman cry.
At night I hear you walk the floors
and something tells me I'm the cause.

You say you're "fine" and that's a lie
when you can't look me in the eye.
Worked hard to get a bigger place
then lost each other in the space.

I guess somewhere along the line
I let your hand slip out of mine
but all those vows I made were true
I promise now - I'll wait for you.

You said work was "my way of hiding"
I just got caught up in providing.
As you bounced babies on your knees,
I lost sleep over college fees.

Every day I panned for gold,
the years past and we both grew old.
The girl I loved so long ago
became a woman I don't know.

I guess somewhere along the line
I let your hand slip out of mine
but all those vows I made were true
I promise now - I'll wait for you.

Let's not look back but look ahead.
Sleep in the middle of our bed
Don't drop your eyes to hide your pain.
I want to hear you laugh again.

All the things you said are true
I do it all for us - for you
Maybe I'm driven by the fear
it's not enough to keep you here.

I guess somewhere along the line
I let your hand slip out of mine
but all the vows I made were true
I promise now - I'll wait for you.

Yeah, I guess somewhere along the line
I let your hand slip out of mine
but all the vows I made are true
I promise now - I'll wait for you

Love it Grace. Real feeling expressed that I relate to. ....Got the rhythm but don't hear the music that was going off in your head.
Do you play a keyboard, guitar?

what makes you post in the poetry section... it's lyrics and it's beautiful. i love your idea for the romance. it's very graphic and i can hear trance for this. i disagree with kev. i very much think this is trance-esque. great work. some lines are clunky and nothing in your song is dorky so.. props gracey.

No one looks at lyrics, CB.

And Grace, this is pretty cool -- let me know if you want some music...

Yes brian, a ballad type song but with something more to equal the quality of words.

I'm happily entrusting that job to Myers - quite in awe of the quality of his music.

I'm a more 'classical' musician Kev - piano and violin.

Might be a bit. Currently lollygaging at the beach -- then I need to finish up something I'm working on.

No... Use an alt. rock vibe. Tune to like drop D down a half step for the electric. Smooth verses (Two guitars?) with a hard rock vibe for the chorus. Like this, perhaps a bit more heavy at the chorus bit.

But I get why thrash metal has it's perks.

I suppose if I was being serious I would say just use the old classic D, E minor, C, G. Mix it up with stroke patterns.

I'm saying all these really technical terms but I couldn't do most of it. I'm a slow learner when it comes to guitar playing.

Good lyrics though. The repetition at the end would work better if a couple of words were changed up a bit.

Heh. I hear a big country ballad.

I'd do it in the key of C major or D major. Right down the middle like a big fat pop bowling lane.

E minor might be a little dark. It's got some sadness and regret, but the message is ultimately positive.

I don't really think of a key ahead of time any more. I usually get a melody in my head and that drives it. The key can change based on what sounds good when I sing it.

In fact, I think my songwriting started to improve when I stopped thinking about keys and chord progressions -- and on top of that any specific genre or "I want to write something that sounds like xyz...

perhaps. A country ballad seems to fit better than alt. rock. But not as good as thrash, I think. Or maybe, just use standard tuning and make it a classic. I guess standard would sound pretty odd compared to what most everybody does today.

I can't play guitar for the life of me. Well, anyway. I love doing it, but it's hard. Perhaps that's why I enjoy it. My fingers have stopped hurting, but my ring and pinky fingers are still weak as heck. It's something I have to work at to get better with, which is a nice change.

Writing songs seems a bit far off. I'd probably be better off learning how to play the thing first. if you get my drift. Otherwise my stuff would sound like the mating call of a lemur.

I was kidding about the thrash metal...

If I had to catogorize what I'm hearing with anything I've done recently it would be this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4g...RBeWItMTA/view

But a lot more stripped down, a bit slower -- and maybe some more country-like instrumentation Brian might be hearing -- but probably not straight-up country or pop-country.

But who knows? Sometimes a contrast between more plaintive lyrics and something up tempo works too.

I like that lyric about water and jealousy.

Grace - you strike a wistful and tender note with these lines. Nicely done

Damn. Now I can't stop thinking about this.

Almost brought a guitar with me on our trip to the beach. I walked out with it when we were loading the car and my wife was like, uh nah...

I like your style Myers. No idea what a major or minor is unless I hear it. Can't play any instrument for the life of me, but what I hear is the foot drum three or four times then guitar playing the rhythm to start. A Jews harp a couple of times and the chorus sang by a woman but the very last verse sang by male and female. That's my twopenny worth thrown in. It'll be interesting to hear what you do with it.

Here it is! A first pass anyway.

Sorry folks -- no ballad, country or otherwise.

Hope you dig it, Grace -- probably not what you expected. It just came to me in a fever.

I've never tried to sing anything close to this -- I could probably do 20 more takes...

Thanks for the first take Myers. You've got the slinky sort of sensual sound. - a base to work from- , Maybe that sort of horn sound could be swapped for a deeper sax if you gave it it room by lowering the beat. Make those bits more prominent when it comes in?.............wonder what Grace thinks?

Well, first pass is a bit of an understatement.

I'd probably like to do several more takes on the vocals -- and tweak everything a bit -- but overall, this is pretty much it.

The sax is what it is. A friend of mine played on something else of mine -- I sampled and tweaked it. But I have very few tokens to use with this guy -- he's a pro, so I probably won't ask him to do anything else.

Wow... That's awesome! Great job dude!

Critique-wise I didn't really enjoy the extremely outstanding bass, but it grew on me.

That snazzy jazz vibe is awesome. It's a genre I enjoy quite a bit. Much better than anything I could've come up with.

Thanks.

Yeah -- just listened in the car -- the bass is too much.

I'll take it down a few notches.

P.S. -- I cut the bass down...

Much better now Myers. Much better. Now the sax can shine and the supporting stuff isn't drowned out entirely.

The hazard of mixing with headphones. If I use the studio monitors, I drive the spousal unit crazy...

Still, I should automatically compensate...
