Default Question about believability in Fantasy

In my novel, their is a darkness that was unleashed, which spreads every time the evil queen steals someones magic.

The source of the darkness is at her lair.

I was picturing this as an impenetrable darkness, that flame could not penetrate.

However using "light" magic to conjure light is the only thing that can penetrate the darkness. She uses it to light her lair, as well as guide her troops/ships etc..

I want to call it the Impenetrable Darkness, but if something can penetrate it then it is not impenetrable.

Is this believable, there is always a way right. I mean we call stuff indestructible (by ordinary means) but there is always a way to destroy it.

Please give your take on this.

Impenetrable darkness is just that.

Surely you can change the description ?

Would the darkness just be static in her lair? Perhaps it could emanate from her at her will?

No it emanates from her lair but grows as she steals magic from people. I can change the name.

Thanks for the feedback

The semi-impenetrable darkness?

The almost impervious darkness?

Okay... I kid.

In the Never Ending Story they called it the nothing.

Pull up 'nothing' on your thesaurus. Maybe something will jump out😀

I like the almost impervious darkness

It's like the grand villain of the story saying:
- "You are doomed, for I am three-quarter immortal!"
- "Oh, woe is us, what are we going to do? The boss can only quasi-die!"

*Cough* Well, getting back on track, there are fortresses which have been called impregnable, and have fallen after a few weeks of intelligent warfare.

However, calling it impenetrable seems kind of cheesy in this context, since the weakness is so obvious.

I would have gone down the road of cancelling darkness, or even the "void". After all, light can penetrate the void.
This is just thinking along the line of brianpatrick.

But I do feel like it's defeating the original purpose of calling it darkness, so I'll leave it at that until I find a better idea.

Agreed guys which is why I asked. Thand for the input. I think a void is more appropriate bc her magic is actually void magic. Not sure why this wasn't obvious

I personally would have called in The Nothingness, but I agree with void, it seems a bit more stylish, polished, and, generally, more suitable
