Saddest book I have ever read took me over a year to read. Its The Constant Princess by Phillipa Gregory. Its the story of Queen Catherin and her first few years in England leading all the way up to her marriage to King Henry. I wont ruin the book but about half way through a character dies and although you know it is going to happen (if you know anything about history) it still breaks your heart. I not only cried a bit when I read it but I stopped reading the book.

A few months later I picked the book up again and started over but when he died I couldn't continue. Finally after about a year I picked it up for a third time and forced myself to finish it.

Thats what happens when someone is able to make you feel like you know the character and you become emotionally attached to them making them and their story that much more real.

Last year, I was put in a French class to do an exam 3 years early! XD My French sucks. It would have taken us two years to prepare for it. Along came subject options, so naturally I dropped it.

Our school teaches those languages. But I don't know Spanish or Japanese.

Hmmm... Seems like one of those languages that would come in handy... I really oughta get some Rosetta Stone software.

What? Spanish???
I've never learnt it. I probably should, but I prefer the ones less people speak because they are generally going to help me. I worked out that when I go on holiday with someone else, they will probably be able to speak basic Spanish, but less likely to speak something like Russian or Swahili.

I actually meant Japanese. I'm taking Spanish and regretting it.

I need to update this one now... I just finished The Book Thief. I cried for the whole last quarter of the book.

Oh my goodness, yeah! ;( That's when I started crying too. But I love it. They're bringing it out as a film in 2011 apparently! Though, like I did with the boy in the striped pyjamas, I will probably end up crying in the cinema.

Yeah, I would go with you, but there's a slight problem with that, such as my parents can't drive me to America

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. There's a heart-wrenching chapter in there that I've never been able to re-read.

Just saw this! It reminds me, there's a chapter in one of those books where an old man who's become a rich landowner after a lifetime of very hard work, is seen to have become very surly and lonely in the process - except for the bond which he shares with two of his old horses. My summary here mightn't sound like much, but the writing in that chapter is so poignant that I just can't read it dry-eyed.

I think Private Peaceful is really sad too.
I'm seeing it in theatre in March. I'm going to need my tissues.
I met Michael Morpurgo though. Had a writing course with him.
