I've been a fan for a while -- so when he was coming to town, to a little tiny venue, I snapped up some tickets.

One night at about 11:00, I sat bolt upright in bed -- my wife said what's the matter? I said, what day is this?

That's right -- I completely whiffed on the show.
Yeah, I really like that. Thanks, I'd never heard of him before.

Hardly anyone has heard of him -- but he does have a few devoted fans. I learned about him from a review in Pitchfork magazine when I was on a quest to find new stuff.

Three great albums -- and then he just disappeared -- not even any posts on his facebook page. No news from his label either.

I like a lot of Mumford and Sons -- not really sure why they abandoned their roots/folk sound on the last one.

I really dig another band in the genre -- The Avvet Brothers -- they mix it up and add just enough rock and pop elements to their music to keep it fresh. They're pretty big here in the States.

This is off their latest:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGmVWKiQOWo

The brothers' dad was playing at a little local music festival, and I said, let's go see where they inherited all their talent -- he was awful.

This is right up my street.

What album is this on, or which should I start with?

Again...never heard of them, so thumbing through your record collection is really producing some treasures for me. Thanks x

Ah, well there's a lot more up that street and the alley too.

That song's off their new one -- True Sadness.

I guess I'd start with I and Love and You. There are a lot of great songs on that album -- and couple that miss the mark.

This is the title song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrsgIEBwIZM

Off the same album -- this may be one of my favorites of theirs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEr9gMYdkHI

Then you might want to check out the album Emotionalism. Here's a great song off that one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ1ogv41A3E

They've got 9 albums out now -- but I don't think the first two are available. Someone gave them to me on CD. So you could go back to Mignonette.

I'd look them up on Wikipedia -- look at the discography and then sample the songs on Youtube. I think it would be worth the effort. You can cherry pick and just get the songs you like, because they do have a few weird songs -- but I'm a purest -- only download full albums.

And they're pretty popular here -- last time I saw them it was at a 7,000 seat venue, and it sold out pretty quickly.

Happy listening!

Number 1 and 3 - meh

The second track has driven Little Man into a 48 hour frenzy of Bollywood dancing and has become his new "bestest"

Can't really post the link yet, but it's Concerto pour une voix, by Saint-Preux

I had always thought it was an old song, but it is quite modern, color me surprised.

Yep, Borodin is perfect for giving expression to darker moods.

A lot of Borodin reminds me of an epic movie score. Like this one:

'Motorcycle emptiness' by Manic Street Preachers. Easily their best song.
