Oh, now I see this (by reading another of your posts) is about a song by Shinedown.

Doesn't help clarify why this original post was deleted though.

Yeah, like anyone but me gives a ... uh uh uhh, calm down, Nick.
Go listen to some Wild Belle.

Hadnít heard of them until you mentioned the name. I had to google.

Theyíre pretty good. Thereís a lot of that voice out there these days. Kinda like all the Eddie Vedder-like voices of the nineties.

They have some good songs. Not sure if this is what you're talking about -- but the singer sings in that ubiquitous, affected indy girl voice -- grates on my nerves. Not sure how it got started, but I never associated it with Eddie Veddar.

I was comparing that voice to all the Eddie Vedder sound-a-likes in the 90ís.

Edit: there were bunches, but Creed comes to mind.

Oh yeah -- of course. Now I see what you meant.

Can't really trace the origins of this one. Selena Gomez, Halsey, Lorde etc. It all seemed to happen at once.

Maybe guy singers like in Death Cab or Fallout Boy on top of Amy Whinehouse? You hear a bit of it in the 90's women, Tory Amos or even Bjork.

Who knows. Wherever it came from, it's super annoying to me.

I read a comment from a vocal couch -- said most of her girl students are infected -- and they don't even realize it.

Yeah, I think itís Bjork. I was going to say that but I thought she was maybe too obscure a reference. I remember when her first album came out. I was dating this singer, living with her, and she was blown away by the record. I liked it, but there was a funny dishonesty weaved into it. For me anyway.

Bjork turned out to be quite a composer and artist. I just think her initial record deal kinda made her pander. Reminds me of the first Radiohead record.

I like selected Bjork. But I haven't kept up.

And my daughter is learning guitar and singing. She likes Taylor Swift, not surprisingly, but listens to lots of stuff -- Joni Mitchell, Sara McLachlan etc.

So far, not a trace of indy/hip singing...

I think someone introduced her to DMT along the way somewhere. Good stuff for personal growth, but a little self-indulgent if you donít apply the lessons to real life.
