Default Generosity

Can generosity be learned or is it something a person has to be born with?

I can think of one other word when talking generous
selfish
they are two extremes.

are we born that way?
yes and no.
everything we are we learn and become a habit of .
however there are exceptions to the rules.
some are gifted with a talent and that is to resume confidence and be different from what they were raised to believe because their instinct tell them differently.
they are not the product of their environment but the product of their own volution imagination intelligence and instinct.
they are naturally best/good at everything because they consciously want to be and naturally also.

We learn a lot from our parents or guardians behavior, their opinions, their examples. Being generous of heart being one trait learned but very much molded by life experience. If one is humbled in life they are often much more giving and appreciative.

that's actually 50/50. since generosity is considered an effective social trait some people are born with it naturally while others develop it as it will aid their professional and social lives.

Default Hmmm....

I think we're all inherently generous but quickly learn to compete and then have to spend our lifetimes unlearning that behavior for the greater good.

I was watching baseball highlights on TV earlier and witnessed some extraordinary. A player hit into the stands a foul ball which was caught by a nine or ten year old boy, who then turned around and handed the ball to a girl (about the same age) sitting in the seat behind him. It was a remarkable show of generosity. This boy is in a class of his own. I would estimate perhaps one in ten his age would ever do something like that.

I believe it is a trait we are born with, but only a handful of us.

I don't reckon you're born with anything.
If your parents / whatever long-term role models are generous, you probably will be too.
I'm not saying you come out a carbon copy of them, but a lot of the time kids inherit certain characteristics from their parents. Like any trait, it is learned.

If you mean later on in life, well, I like to think that anybody can change, but whether or not they will is a different matter entirely.
