Default Ms Ocloo

So I saw Ms Ocloo on Google this morn and thought I'd share a quick thought.

For the past 50 years Western states have given to the third world in the form of government aid and charity to the approx tune of $1 trillion.

The ineffectiveness of this process is convoluted and manifold. But I think the root of the problem is that the money isn't often enough poured into projects which actually create jobs. So the money gets spent -- usually by inept and corrupt members of some awful regime -- no more people are employed, and we're back to square one.

Speaking in general, it really doesn't matter how much money you give to some people. Michael Carroll is a classic case (yes I'm comparing useless governments to Michael Carroll).

With this in mind giving is cool, but maybe it's the entrepreneurs who deserve the cash, since they create the jobs. Could microfinance be the 'wave'?

Ain't heard of him over here.

Useless governments - can we start with the one that says it controls Mexico?

In some ways Michael Carroll's life is an almost artful display of anti-materialism.

Either that or a case study which shows that being broke isn't always about society holding you back, sometimes it's in your DNA.

He won over 9 million on the lottery and immediately proceeded to blow it all on gaudy gold chains, hookers, pizza and cocaine. Last I heard he was working in a biscuit factory.

I suspect that most people know someone, who given the same windfall, would behave in a similar manner.
