Default For My Mentors

It's like
a '57 Plymouth
coming along the sidewalk

The right front fender
is mowing down
wooden picket fences

Occasional mailboxes
clipped and bouncing
off the hood, roof, trunk

This is how it feels
sometimes
when I read you,
Hank

It's like
a wrecking ball
swinging
from a 2 story crane

Bringing down false,
useless and outdated
walls of constructions

In my heart
In my past
In my mind

This is how your
sentences are touching
me, John

If the tears talked
they would say;

Thank You, Mr. Bukowski
Thank You, Mr. Fante
Eternal thanks to you both

The best I can do is; Good one! Or as some of my native friends say; goot one!

Keep on writing.

Always learn something from you.
Had never heard of Bukowski and Fante.
Done some homework.
I can see the Charles Bukowski influence in how you write.
Favourite piece you recommend?
John Fante - can you tell me what to start on?

I ain't ever read anything by either of these guys I would not recommend, Grace.
You Tube has Buke reciting "Born Into This" as he walks his 'hood.
A prescient piece.

If you google John Fante you can find his bio. It tells some of his interaction with Hank. What it doesn't tell you is he never saw Bukowski's renowned visage. Diabetes had taken his sight before they met.

Back to Buke- Mickey Rourke played him in "Barfly". Worth watching.

mlp, this would be an example of other than generic type statements while continuing to make polite statements.

Nick, I think it is very thoughtful of you to provide an example to illustrate your comment to mlp.

it's a really brave introspection, but not enough substance and lots of fancy decorations; i think you were going for a lot more than you put the effort to in writing down. were you proud of this, btw? i hope i'm not bursting your bubble. very dilemma-ish toward the start and then it's like getting taken down. just being harsh cause you've been doing really cool other type stuff.

thanks for sharing. you always share writers that i just adore. like you had everyone starting off with charles bukowski. i hope you know to keep your inspiration's sources for yourself tho. ppl could be like all trying to one-up you and you'd be all blown, no? in any case, yo!

Just read this and discovered I commented on it six years ago - are you polishing old treasures or getting nostalgic Mr Pierce?

I gather it's gone quiet here?

Upturn me a chair and put the jukebox on.

Thanks for missing me Bot. Been trying to get on for months, but WB wasn't accessible.

I see you've been busy - beak wide and squawking last time I was here - but now you can fly.

Way to go girl x
