Default S.O.L. in Syria

I can hear the helos
Heavy rotors beating the sky

They are coming for my hope

Poor bastards
I lost that long ago

I'm a little confused about the POV.

Donít know what S.O.L. means so I donít really know what I think (not that unusual).

L2-4 are cool but my problem with L1 is that helos sounds too much like hellos which could itself have legs if explored a bit.

Why? Why? Why? does it double post. I hate machines.

Perhaps Nick placed himself amongst the Syrian people and the barrel bombs and feels their despair - no help coming . I'm also stuck on S.O.L. ..........I'll go with brians guess.

It's obviously shit outta luck, but who is the MC? If it's a refugee, why does he refer to the occupants of the helicopters "poor bastards"? The voice sounds a tad American if not military, but why would an American soldier lose hope in this sense?

I can't get a handle on what is happening to whom.

Hell, these days the only time I can wear a black shirt with black pants is when I'm ridin'.

Yes, yes, I know it's different up there in America's hat.

Wallah, I'm doing the best I can with what I have to work with.

Ooops.

The helo in the film is an Mi-24.
Soviet pilots refer to it as a Flying Tank.

I would not expect that, but S.O.L from an Arab refugee really feels like a false note.

Yes, yes, much different from Canada's . . .

Is he a refugee? Would the real Nick Pierce stand up please.

Maybe it's told from the point of view of a Syrian in Homs or Idlib waiting for the next bomb to fall and thinks it may fall on him. ...Perhaps it will. Just waiting for death. No hope of an alternative reality, perhaps.

Helos – Could be a case of geography. I’ve only heard of choppers or copters. It’s because it’s so similar to hello (the greeting) I find it a tad … confusing, and being blonde understanding stuff is an effort. Come to think of it choppers could … you know … a man’s dangly thingy, and as for copters, hello, hello, hello. what’s going on here then? could be to do with the police. Just ignore me. I’m used to being ignored. Sometimes a happy being ignored. Guess I’m S.O.L.

No hope of an alternative reality.

The aged, infirm and crippled are unable to flee.

As they used to say in Nippon "Shikata ga nai".

Not to worry, dearie.
Simply you learning a new term to help with understanding Yanks.
Yeah, the interaction makes me chuffed too.

On a further and marginally related tack a chopper was what some Roaring Twenties era people called the Thompson .45 caliber submachine gun.

Shall I supply a link or has there been enough testosterone spraying for now?

Default S.O.L. in Syria

Syria? My God man, hasn't our position become obvious? Spank a little for using chem weapons and allow to continue.

Now, North Korea... that may be something. Although, I suspect Kim is not as crazy as we'd like to think. At least... he wants to stay alive. He'll probably get the message.

Last I heard China told U.S. "Doughboy steps outta line again and he is ours".

And as for Trump and Company - I got a feelin' they are just gettin' warmed up.

I took Little Man to the cinema the other night to see 'Kong: Skull Island'. (Kinda 70% Jurassic Park, 20% Predator and 10% Platoon) . Stuff blows up, people die, and a ridiculously large gorilla gets misunderstood - he loved it.

Anyway, there's a scene where the U.S Military helos (freshly deployed from Vietnam) fly in formation through a valley - about eight of them I think. On the big screen, it was visually stunning and the sound of their blades was hypnotic. I recalled the words of this poem verbatim as I watched the scene.

Just wanted you to know your shit sticks Mr P. x

The Poor bastards is intended to show the tender humanity that can still be expressed for an oppressor even as the oppression continues.
