Icon10 Word Count Update

Loved the information. It was a trememdous help.

Is your word count article still the norm in today's market?

It was quite a bit of useful information right there! To be honest did not have even the slightest idea of the difference between novels and novellas. (honestly thought it was just a difference in saying between various people) Would you happen to know if Word uses the proper counting method?

I have no real way of knowing how long my play is

I am going to time the read through with amateur Actors

But there are dance elements and slower scenes than the word count

I read a minute a page but how many words on that page?

This is a great post! Thank you for sharing this useful information. I too often wondered the difference between novels, novellas, and short stories.

Wow, this is just the info I was looking for. Thanks
I was also curious reading some of the replies, if there is a general rule of thumb for chapters as well? I know when I read, I sometimes set a goal of one chapter a night, or use a new chapter as a stopping point. So would be interesting on thoughts as to a good rule of thumb for chapter lengths.
Thank you in advance .

Having read other people's thoughts on chapters, the general rule of thumb seems to be 2-3000 words, although personally I just write a chapter for as long as it needs to run, you could have anything from just a few words to 5000 words (cough cough george r r martin)

Totally helpful. And I'd never heard of 'flash fiction' until read this post.
