Specious
Oh, the churches, the churches burn,
The churches tear and fall to the ground,
They disappear and dissipate,
The churches rot, disintegrate.
Oh, and the faithful in churches burn,
The faithful cry and pray for help,
They are too weak, incompetent,
They think they love the incoherent.
Oh, and when the dust finally sets,
When all the churches and people died,
The wind picks up their remains,
And turns them all to illusive haze.

You got me when the churches started burning.
I looked up illusive.
Yeah, smarter guys than I may come along and suggest alterations.
Let 'em.
I taste the nectar of this.
And I like it.

When you get a universal truth like this, you don't need to perform lyrical acrobatics.
You can simply offer a couple of lightly coloured images and the reader will do the rest. So much said here. All our history, our relentless temple building and destroying, every deity conjured up and forgotten.
It's funny. We probably really think today's creeds are here to stay. 😬

Oh we will definitely continue to build our temples for sure.
Freud said religion will persist so long as people fear death.
That's not a bad basis for its persistence -- and not something you could defeat say with rational argument.
You could probably go further and say for as long as people want to be loved!
Good luck with that 😂

Wait.
What?
Does this mean Odinism is gone?
Aw, c'mon - I'm halfway through building my Hjortspring boat replica.
It is so much work to keep up with the changes.

And in 1977 Ken Olsen, the founder of the Digital Equipment Corporation, said that "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.". Times change, people evolve and they no longer believe everything they are being told. I don't think it will happen during our life times but I believe that, eventually, religion will become obsolete and unnecessary.

Cool.
Then Thor will have to work at a real job like the rest of us slobs.

ah yes.
But we're not talking 1977 or late 19th. We're talking for as long as our known history extends -- we've created Gods and myths. It's kind of our thing.
This time is unique, granted. The enlightenment and atheism are more or less new things the spread of which no-one ancient would've predicted. But you see new waves like say Milo Yiannopoulos, a modern Gay outlandish and 'cool' provocateur, who promotes Christianity and then you think, yeah people can spin it to fit whichever outfit, and they will.
Personally I think it's as written into our existence as hierarchy. Communism tries to defeat both, ends up creating hierarchical dictatorships with men as God heads. Good job 😕 Even in the more irreligious global north we see resurgence of witchcraft, paganism, Wicca, and New Ageism of one sort or another where traditional monotheisms have faded.

Sure, there will always be people who think the Earth is flat and six thousand years old. Like I said - I don't think the change will happen overnight, it will take decades, or centuries, but people will finally start regarding religion as it should be seen - literature, a set of myths, and a cultural phenomenon. The same way we look at Santa and Tooth Fairy now. Or maybe I'm just being optimistic.
But I don't want to argue about religion, there are far nicer topics to talk about.

He can work under me. I could find a use for his Mighty Mjolnir.
