I know, but I listen to them and I'm happy to say so.

I really like the first three albums -- a little filler, but a lot of the songs are brilliant. "Rush of Blood to the Head" is my favorite.

Couldn't get into "Viva la Vida" or much after that. Too pop for my tastes.

There's a stigma against Coldplay? I like anything I've heard from them.

Sorry, I'm living under a metaphorical rock. Most of the people I interact with like modern country

Disturbed recently did a cover of "The Sound of Silence". The singer really has some ability. They normally do stuff like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCSRo_jRt10

Then they did this cover:

I can't deal with contemporary country -- as Tom Petty said, it's like bad rock with a fiddle.

And I've heard that Disturbed cover -- I see why people like it, but I'm not a big fan. Seems a little overblown to me.

Whenever I hear it, I feel like I have to listen to the original. Can't really top it, in my opinion. Unlike a lot of Simon & Garfunkle, it develops into something that is pretty much rock and roll -- especially considering when it came out.

And Coldplay -- you know some people -- once a band gets really popular, it's no longer cool. I have friends who will stop listening to a band once they hit the mainstream. And yeah -- sometimes the bands go mainstream too -- but they won't even listen to the old stuff. Kinda silly.

Personally I don't like them not because they're uncool but because they're bad.

I think they've sold too many records for you to get away with that comment! If they're not to your taste though, that's fine.

I don't like everything they do, but a few gems.

Say what you will, But I'm digging the crap out of Crossfade today. I like a lot of things, but I tend towards the alternative rock genre. The kind that emulates 90s grunge. sorta.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJBm34yr1Sk

Then there's seether's Country Song which I had stuck in my head a couple days ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yx5mK8ZS4U

Side Note: Did anyone else go see Roger Waters when he toured this summer?

well, you know what they say. 'There's only two types of music: good and bad. if you like it it's good. If you don't like it it's bad.'

I know, right?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d020hcWA_Wg

That was a genre that largely passed me by when it was new. Young Family, New Farm, and the fact that I didn't hear that music locally. Thanks to XM radio I'm catching up....

This gets played a great deal in my house because the cats love it. They also love Barber's Adagio and Bach's Goldberg Variations.

Country Music discovered the Eagles in the 90s, and has been engaged in maudlin to outright bad rip offs ever since

Which is a shame because the 90s started off with some decent acts. What ever happened to Clint Black? (ok, 1989) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAm4nHFOir0

And earlier in the '80s - Hank Jr . put out some stuff that still sounds good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cQNkIrg-Tk

And some did well not taking themselves seriously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fntaXDX44bo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoj8cE4QGhw

And it bares repeating - the best Country Song, Ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0-NbqMZmOQ

If you like your country blended with rock then how about a good set of pipes?
