Default Publishing Short Stories

I have a few stories that I am interested in publishing. Problem is, I'm not quite sure how to go about getting them published and who to submit them to. So far, I have submitted to very few literary journals but am trying to look for more outlets. Can anyone give me names of places that I can try to submit my work to?

Duotrope. (just google it).

You enter a few details about your story (genre/if you want paying) and it brings up a list of places that might be a good fit for your story.

Good luck in getting published.

To back up what STM has said, I found homes for all my short stories using Duotrope. Some have been e-zines, some are e-publishers (for sale on things like Amazon Kindle) some are anthologies etc. Some are paid, some are non-paid.

Duotrope is an excellent tool in terms of finding publishers and providing you with a tracking tool. It also prompts you as to when is a good time to chase your work. Good Luck.

Or you could look up literary magazines and publishers that are looking for short stories. Maybe enter a competition or something like that, which could get you published in an anthology.

I looked at Duotrope too, and it's really helpful as well.

Also, the classifieds here on Writers Beat are worth having a look through.

"Dr" Bennett; don't pretend you can help when what you're actually trying to do is recuit content writers who'll work for nothing. It's dishonest.

I don't see what Search Engine Optimization have to do with publishing short stories.

Children, beware of Dr. Bennet and his rusty white van.

So I sent a few of my stories to different places...Does anyone have an approximate turn around time or does it vary, depending on who I sent my work to?

If you used Duotrope to find these places it gives you an average turn around time for most of the listings.

Also the publications themselves often give you an idea in the submissions guidelines.
