Default Inspiring Lyrics

First, for the board's sake, a disclaimer:

DISCLAIMER:
No copyright infringement is intended by the posting of the following lyrics. We do not own the rights to these songs, nor the right to distribute the actual songs. We just like the lyrics

We all know that a million tiny things, like a leaf floating through the air, could inspire a heart-pounding horror thriller complete with carnage and the MC dying a gruesome death. Or that a lion ripping a deer to shreds could inspire a fairy princess tale, complete with the happy ending (or maybe those should be reversed... I dun know 'bout y'all), but what I find to be most inspiring, at least on one level, is lyrics.

So, of all the threads round here 'bout music, here is where you post the lyrics that inspired something great; whether it be a poem or an epic novel, what songs carried you through it?

At the moment, I'm on a very unexpected All American Rejects kick... I have no idea why, but after quite a few years of bashing the band to the deepest pits of hell for being commercial and not putting a lick of thought into their music, I realized I was wrong. They've got some good stuff. Their latest song, for example, I've looped for hours while writing (which is another weird occurrence... I usually don't listen to music while writing).

Gives You Hell, AAR:

I wake up every evening
With a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place.
And you're still probably working
At a 9 to 5 pace
I wonder how bad that tastes

When you see my face
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell

Now where's your picket fence, love?
And where's that shiny car?
Did it ever get you far?
You've never seemed so tense, love
Never seen you fall so hard
Do you know where you are?

Truth be told I miss you
Truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell

If you find a man that's worth the damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope he gives you hell
I Hope it gives you hell

Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself
Where did it all go wrong?
But the list goes on and on
Truth be told I miss you
Truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth the damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool you're just as well hope it gives you hell

Now you'll never see
What you've done to me
You can take back your memories
They're no good to me
And here's all your lies
If you look me in the eyes
With the sad, sad look
That you wear so well

When you see my face
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell (hope it gives you hell)
When you walk my way
I hope it gives you hell, I hope it gives you hell (hope it gives you hell)
When you hear this song and you sing along well you'll never tell
And you're the fool I've just as well I hope it gives you hell
When you hear this song I hope that it will give you hell
You can sing along I hope that it puts you through hell
And probably one of my favorite songs, Through Fire and Flames by Dragonforce:

On a cold winter morning, in the time before the light,
In flames of death's eternal reign, we ride towards the fight.
When the darkness has fallen down, and the times are tough all right.
The sound of evil laughter falls around the world tonight.

Fighting hard, fighting on for the steel, through the wastelands evermore,
The scattered souls will feel the hell, bodies wasted on the shore.
On the blackest plains in Hell's domain, we watch them as they go,
Through fire and pain, and once again we know...

So now we'll fly ever free, we're free before the thunderstorm,
On towards the wilderness, our quest carries on.
Far beyond the sundown, far beyond the moonlight,
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls...

So far away we wait for the day,
For the lives all so wasted and gone;
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days-
Through the fire and the flames we carry on!

As the red day is dawning, and the lightning cracks the sky,
They'll raise their hands to the heavens above with resentment in their eyes.
Running back through the midmorning light, there's a burning in my heart;
We're banished from a time in a fallen land, to a life beyond the stars.

In your darkest dreams see to believe, our destiny is time,
And endlessly we'll all be free tonight...!

And on the wings of a dream, so far beyond reality;
All alone in desperation, now the time has gone.
Lost inside you'll never find, lost within my own mind,
Day after day this misery must go on!

So far away we wait for the day,
For the lives all so wasted and gone,
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days,
Through the fire and the flames we carry on!

Now here we stand with their blood on our hands,
We fought so hard now can we understand
I'll break the seal of this curse if I possibly can
For freedom of every man!

So far away we wait for the day,
For the lives all so wasted and gone,
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days,
Through the fire and the flames we carry on!

I think the lyrics for Everything Changes by Staind are awesome.

If you just walked away
What could I really say?
Would it matter anyway?
Would it change how you feel?

I am the mess you chose
The closet you cannot close
The devil in you i suppose
'Cause the wounds never heal

But everything changes
If I could
Turn back the years
If you could
Learn to forgive me
Then I could learn to feel

Sometimes the things I say
In moments of disarray
Succumbing to the games we play
To make sure that it's real

But everything changes
If I could
Turn back the years
If you could
Learn to forgive me
Then I could learn to feel

When it's just me and you
Who knows what we could do
If we can just make it through
The toughest part of the day

But everything changes
If I could
Turn back the years
If you could
Learn to forgive me
Then I could
Learn how to feel
Then we could
Stay here together
And we could
Conquer the world
If we could
Say that forever
Is more than just a word

If you just walked away
What could I really say?
And would it matter anyway?
It wouldn't change how you feel
They would have worked perfectly for a certain part of the last novel I wrote, but lawsuits aren't big on my list of things to do before I die.

I always thought "Running Man", by Al Stewart, would make a great story. (Maybe your sort of story, Daedalus!) It inspired many bittersweet daydreams when I was younger. The tune's pretty great, too... suits it.

Before the phone hits the receiver
You're halfway to the door
The voice said "get out while you can,
There's just 10 minutes, nothing more"
Time for only the essentials, better gather them and run
The false name inside the passport, the gold bars and the gun.
And once again they've come out of the past
And though your mind is cool, your heart is beating fast
You've been through it all before
Each time you wish a little more than you can ask...

CHORUS
"what do you want from me?
What do you need from me?
There's no rest for the running man
Why can't you let him be?"

Its a long and twisting journey, from the sweeping northern plains,
To the outcrops of the jungle bowed beneath the tropic rains
In the customs hall the officer takes you to one side
And his eyes reveal no feeling as you hand over the bribe
And once again you've bought a little time
And once again you're fading out of sight
Still the fox is growing older, as he calls over your shoulder to the night...

CHORUS

Here, come over here... beneath a sympathetic moon
We'll sit and talk over old times without a fear.
Another beer! From the cafes of the night
The tumbling rhythms of guitars ring loud and clear

One by one they've nailed the others, but you always got away
What it is that keeps you just that step ahead, no one can say
In one last raid the agents of the dawn break down the door
Of a house where you were standing maybe just an hour before
And still the thread continues to unwind
You take the hidden roads that only you can find
And should they come upon your tracks
There's just a question hanging back you left behind...

CHORUS

Nice Dragonforce lyrics, El, but my vote for their most inspiring song would be "Dawn Over a New World" or "Heroes of our Time". Won't post either here, but here's one of my favourites. I took it from a lyrics site, so the names above each verse are there. They denote different speakers, or characters. It's by a band called Kamelot, from their album Epica, a concept album telling a Faust-like story. The song is III Ways to Epica

[MEPHISTO:]
When you play with fire
You must anticipate some burns
Chasing for desire...
It's just a different way to learn

[ARIEL:]
I am defected from God
[HELENA:]
God had seized my soul
[ARIEL:]
So low redemptions too far
[HELENA:]
I am heaven's sheen
[ARIEL:]
She's the one that I loved
[HELENA:]
Love is all around
[ARIEL:]
And she tore me apart
[HELENA:]
The dark can never win

[MEPHISTO:]
All that I require
Is some trust as the pages turn
I can take you higher
Cause your will is my concern

[ARIEL:]
I am defected from God
[HELENA:]
God had seized my soul
[ARIEL:]
So low redemptions too far
[HELENA:]
I am heaven's sheen
[ARIEL:]
She's the one that I loved
[HELENA:]
Love is all around
[ARIEL:]
And she tore me apart
[HELENA:]
The dark can never win

[ARIEL:]
So long...maybe forever
I must carry on
Why did God take away
That one thing I wanted
Maybe God is the melody
We all serenade

[MEPHISTO:]
You would not feel sadness
If you never tasted joy
That's the curse of humans
Born in passion you destroy

And more favourite lyrics from them. A continuation of the concept album, this song is off The Black Halo. Memento Mori, it's called. Wonderful lyrics. Very thought-provoking, rich in sheer melodic value.

Who wants to separate
The world we know from our beliefs
And who sees only black and white
Distinguish loss from sacrifice
Some day we may come to peace
With the world within ourselves
And I will await you
Until I close my eyes

When your time has come
You know you'll be lonely once again
And the final winter comes to us all
Life is treacherous
But you're not the only who must pretend

We're a second in time
We're the last in the line
Of the prey that walks the earth
Good and evil combined

I am the god in my own history
The master of the game
I may believe if she would come to me
And whisper out my name
Sometimes I wonder where the wind has gone
If life has ever been
Sometimes I wonder how belief alone
Can cut me free from sin

When you close your eyes
Mementos of summer retrieves your mind
Like a drizzle afternoon cleans the air
When the winter blows
You're glad you remember you really tried

And it comes to an end
Even winter... life fall
And we all have our beliefs
Pray for mercy for all

I am a man without a mystery
The deal is done within
I will embrace the coldest winter breeze
And pay for every sin

[Helena]
VICTORIA, NON PRAEDA
MEMENTO MORI

[Mephisto]
UNA VOCE... VOLO, NON VALEO
DULCE ET DECORUM EST
PRO PATRIA MORI
MEMENTO MORI

[Ariel]
So subservant in your embrace
No more denial
No run away
This is the final
My last recall
And that's the price for what we learn
The more we know the more we yearn
Cause we're so alone

I am a man without a mystery
The deal is done within
I will embrace the coldest winter breeze
The journey can begin
I'm still the god in my own history
I still believe that she will come to me
And whisper out my name

Some day we will come to peace
And reach beyond behind the lies
And I will await you
Until I close my eyes

Even if you don't like the show, One Tree Hill has amazing artists, from up-and-coming never-seen-the-spotlight artists, to well established ones, and they've helped many of the first to the latter. Anyhow, I just heard an amazing song that sparked a new scene for my novel. Great lyrics.

Rosi Golan, Been a Long Day:

It's been a long day
And all I've got to say is: Make it strong
It's been a long day
And all I've got to say is: I've been wrong

So take a leave of absence
Tell me you'll be gone
I don't want to see your face

It's been a long day
And I just want to hide away

It's been a long week
And all the lines come down heavy on me
It's been a long week
I'm finally feeling like it's okay to break
into a thousand pieces
no one can replace
only I can find my way

It's been long day
And I just want to hideaway

It's been a long year
And everyone around me has disappeared
It's been a long year
And all this mess around me has finally cleared

So can I have a moment just to say hello
Can you let your anger go?
It's been a long year
And I'm finally ready to be here

I have to say you're all wrong most inspirational song is Creationist by Kerli, it just makes you let all your troubles fall away and reassures you there's going to be a better day

This is an old and funny poem
I accidentally overheard.
It keeps the little children playing
And bigger children spread the word.
My memory is bad so I always tend to forget
How it goes but

Life is my creation.
Is my best friend.
Imagination is my defense.
And Ill keep walking
When skies are grey.
Whatever happens
Was meant that way.

Your no better or no worse than the others
We are all the same.
Life is just a moment
You might as well enjoy this day.
Its time to start believing that everything we want is
On its way and

Life is my creation.
Is my best friend.
Imagination is my defense.
And Ill keep walking
When skies are grey.
Whatever happens
Was meant that way.

Well be growing
Into knowing
Why were flowing
Keep on going

Life is my creation.
Is my best friend.
Imagination is my defense.
And Ill keep walking
When skies are grey.
Whatever happens
Was meant that way.

Im a creationist.
Im a creationist.

This is an old and funny poem
I accidentally overheard
