If you want sci-fi that is truly unique and interesting, I would check out any of Kurt Vonnegut's stories. His prose is extremely entertaining, and he has many ideas that are completely off the wall, yet he has the ability to make sense of them.

Slaughterhouse Five is a good one. I think there are a couple sexual jokes in it, but it's nothing that I'd get worried about. It's a true mind-bender of a story and is one of the most unique reading experiences you can find.

Definitely a classic, should be taught in school more often. I would recommend that foremost, but his other novels are also quite good (a lot of them are sci-fi related). So if you're feeling adventurous, I'd check them out.

And yeah, Game of Thrones is extremely graphic, so unless you're willing to get over it, it's probably not a good idea to pursue. Still a great series, though.
