Publishing short stories?
Where would i publish them? I have many files on my computer filled with short stories and poetry, but i have no clue what to do with them. I'd like to be able to publish some of them in a magazine, but i don't really know of any fitting magazines.

Don't say "google it", because i already have i didn't really find anything that seemed to fit me.

Does anyone know of any magazines (or ways to find such a magazine) that would publish my type of writing?

Just submit them to magazines. Look for short story contests, there are tons of listings. Submit your ass off and let the journals decide if you're a good fit.

Or self-publish a collection.

Google it. This time spend more than 2 minutes looking. Getting short fiction published is about as easy as it gets.

Join Duotrope, for a small monthly subscription fee they''ll provide you with detailed listings and take the hardwork out of searching for you.

Or, like Mike says, spend more time researching on Google.

To help with the google search:

Know the genre of your short story: eg, YA sci-fi short story submissions. You might have to check if you need parental permissions for any submissions in any genre. So cover yourself there too.

Whoever you decide to go with, get them checked out first (through Preditors & Editors etc). There are scams out there, so don't send a submission to anywhere without finding if they are okay.

If all else fails, post the name here (or do it privatey via pm) and we'll look at them for you. The majorty of writers on here have their own ways of checking a publisher out. :)

You can upload to amazon as a short story and charge a buck. I have several available via the kindle.

How many have you sold?

As a heavy eBook reader, I personally don't like reading short stories as eBooks. I'd rather read a whole collection.

I'm working on refurbishing some of my old short stories as well as several novel idea. Hopefully by the beginning or end of spring i'll be able send out submissions.

Thanks guys that really helped with the google search.

Also i've considering self pup, but i really don't have a large enough social group.

Thanks again,
